Favorite Garden Flowers - Hydrangeas
Hydrangeas:
Hydrangeas are beautiful plants that can give lots of summer color to some very difficult gardening situations. The bright cheerful blooms are why we love these plants. It's no wonder that they are many peoples favorite garden flowers.
There are five different kinds;
Macrophylla - Big Leaf
Arborescens - Smooth Hydrangeas
Quercifolia - Oak Leaf
Paniculata - Panicle
Petiolaris- Climbing
Hydrangeas are easy & satisfying to grow.
They are heavy bloomers, from mid-summer to late fall. Some of them even change colors based on your soil PH. Acidic soils with a pH of less than 5.5 produce blue flowers; soils with a pH greater than 5.5 product pink flowers.
White flowers are not affected by pH. To change the color to more blue lower your pH, add garden sulfur or aluminum sulfate to your soil. To raise the pH to more pink, use ground lime. White hydrangeas will stay white. Our Garden Center can help you choose the proper product to add. Click here or here to read more in-depth information about Hydrangeas
